Joe Brannen and his family are in need of your prayers!

Mr. Joe had surgery last Monday to correct his foot turning over and his toes curling up. He started having complications and had to stay in the hospital. While in the hospital he has had another stroke and the doctor told them yesterday that they were going to have to take Mr. Joe's left leg due to a blood disease. The whole family is scared to death that Mr. Joe's body will not deal well with the trauma from having another surgery.

Lessons from Gracism

Our Sunday School class is doing a study on Gracism using David Anderson's LifeWay book. The book hits hard on points of family and marriage.

Here are some questions from today's lesson that really make one stop and think about how we treat our spouses...

Have your words been a) life words or b) death words?
Have you chosen to focus on the a) positive and what could be or b) the negative and what is?
Have you regularly demonstrated grace through forgiveness? a) yes or b) no

Often times, I catch myself blowing up over small things (clothes on the floor, Coke cans left on the counter, dishes in the sink) instead of focusing on what I have been blessed with. I have a nice home; a beautiful, healthy son; a successful career, a husband that loves me and works hard to support our family, wonderful friends and a Father that answers every need. So, why do I focus on the little things that really aren't going to matter in a days time? Because I need to work on my own Gracism. Grace is an undeserved gift ~ not something I delve out when things are done my way. Grace is forgiving without ever letting the person know there was a problem, speaking words that inspire, taking care of the needs of others, admitting when you are wrong and being able to say you are sorry, offering a kind word out of the blue, doing something unexpected just to make life easier for a family member, throwing away the scorecard, and learning to focus on goals and letting go of any regrets.

Please be in prayer for the Cox family as they deal with the loss of a husband, son, father, brother, friend. Jason Cox will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Please lift Tracey, Eli and Ava Cox up in a special prayer as their lives will forever be changed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Union Methodist Church.

Charlene Dupree visited today and blessed our class, along with 2 other class in our building this morning. I will have to say there were many a tear shed. It is amazing how God works in lives; turning tragedy into blessings. Charlene reminded all of us to take every moment God gives us as a gift and to give praises to him for those gifts!

I do want to tell you one thing she didn't get to talk about because of time restrictions... at the end of her testimony, she was talking about her bead work... she now goes back to Candler (where she did her stroke recovery) and does beading with other stoke patients on the 5th floor. I know this has to be such rewarding work for her and a wonderful way to show how God has been so faithful to her through this long journal she has been on. And to think she is still smiling. I'm not so sure I would be; I am so lucky to be able to call her friend! I love her and I want to say thank you Charlene for taking the time for coming and sharing your story with my friends!

A friend that I went to high school with, Andy Brown, has been admitted into the Shepard Center in Atlanta. Andy was in an accident several years ago, leaving him paralyzed. He will be having surgery while at Shepard, followed by an extended stay. Please keep Andy, as well as, his family in your prayers. Blue Fridays

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of blue much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in BLUE and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is 'We need your support and your prayers.' Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something blue every Friday.
